Das urbane Gerüst : Aktivierung, Erschließung und Bewahrung von urbanen Freiräumen anhand partizipativer Infrastrukturen

Abstract

Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit widmet sich, ausgehend von einem relationalen Raumverständnis, der Analyse hegemonialer Strukturen im Kontext dichtbebauter Wohngebiete im Wiener Westen. Es wird untersucht, auf welche Weise urbane Freiräume aktiviert werden können, sodass sie den vielschichtigen Bedürfnissen und Aneignungspraktiken einer diversen Gesellschaft gerecht werden.Der methodische Zugang erfolgt durch eine umfassende und systematische Literaturrecherche und nähert sich dem untersuchten Gebiet qualitativ. Sowohl anhand einer visuellen Analyse in Form eines Fotoessays, einer vergleichenden Untersuchung überregionaler Referenzprojekte als auch einer kontextspezifischen Umfrage im unmittelbaren Umfeld.Ziel der Arbeit ist es, einen Beitrag zur intersektionalen und kritisch-reflexiven Weiterentwicklung urbaner Planungsperspektiven in Wien zu leisten – insbesondere im Hinblick auf die Anforderungen einer inklusiven, demokratischen und sozial gerechten Stadtentwicklung.Der abschließend formulierte Gestaltungsvorschlag eines modularen Systems zur partizipativen Raumaneignung, versteht sich als praktischer Impuls zur langfristigen Aktivierung urbaner Freiräume. Dabei zielt dieser – im Sinne Richard Sennetts – auf eine (Re)Demokratisierung öffentlicher Räume ab und positioniert sich dezidiert gegen Prozesse der Privatisierung, Vereinzelung, Verdrängung und Kontrolle.

Based on a relational understanding of space, this diploma thesis is dedicated to the analysis of hegemonic structures in the context of densely built-up residential areas in the west of Vienna. It examines how urban open spaces can be activated so that they meet the complex needs and appropriation practices of a diverse society.The methodological approach is based on a comprehensive and systematic literature review and takes a qualitative inquiry to the area under investigation, using a visual analysis in the form of a photo essay, a comparative study of supra-regional reference projects and a context-specific survey in the immediate vicinity.The aim of the work is to make a contribution to the intersectional and critically reflective further development of urban planning perspectives in Vienna - particularly with regard to the requirements of inclusive, democratic and socially just urban development.The final design proposal of a modular system for participatory appropriation of space is intended as a practical impulse for the appropriation and long-term activation of urban open spaces. In the spirit of Richard Sennett, it aims to (re)democratize public spaces and takes a firm stance against processes of privatization, isolation, displacement and control.
