We study the role of electronic correlations during HHG in multi-electron atoms. By comparing fully correlated time-dependent simulations of noble gases (He, Ne) and of alkaline earth atoms (Be, Mg) we identify prominent features of the influence of correlations on both the tunneling as well as the recombination step. We identify species-specific signatures of correlations during tunneling imprinted on the high harmonic spectrum.
