Magnetic brakes can be used as supplementary brake structure for railway vehicles. The nonlinear mathematical model of self-sustained oscillations is the aim of this paper. The lumped parameter technique describes the non-stationary magnetic flux, which is generated by mechanical oscillations of electromagnet. The electromagnetic subsystem is simulated by lumped parameter method. The self-sustained oscillations are generated in brake structure due to dry friction between railway and brake part. Nonlinear mathematical model of magnetic brake structure is obtained to study these oscillations. This model consists of two submodels: electromagnetic subsystem oscillations mathematical model and mechanical subsystem oscillations model. The system of eight nonlinear ordinary differential equations is derived to simulate oscillations. Stick-slip motions of the frame are analysed numerically.
