Photonics devices such as metasurfaces, photonic circuits, and modulators control the flow of light using a variety of “tuning knobs”: material structuring, temporal modulation, or wavefront shaping. In this talk I discuss how to design these tuning knobs to achieve optimal optical response in both classical and quantum photonics.
