Spatial gaps vs. connections : ein hybrides Community-Zentrum als räumliche Schnittstelle zwischen zwei Stadtteilen

Abstract

Die Diplomarbeit untersucht die Entwicklung eines hybriden Community-Zentrums an der Grenze zweier Stadtteile, deren Übergang heute kaum als gemeinsamer Stadtraum wahrgenommen wird. Auf Basis einer Analyse der sozialen Infrastruktur und der räumlichen Situation entsteht ein Gebäudekomplex, der Begegnung und vielfältige gemeinschaftliche Nutzungen ermöglicht.Zentrales Element ist ein ringförmiges Bauwerk, das als räumliches und symbolisches Bindeglied fungiert. Der Ring verbindet die Programme und schafft eine Abfolge von öffentlichen und halböffentlichen Innen- und Außenräumen mit platzartigen Situationen für Austausch und Veranstaltungen. Begrünungs- und Verschattungselemente verbessern dabei gezielt die Aufenthaltsqualität.Die Struktur ist konstruktiv und typologisch flexibel angelegt, sodass unterschiedliche Nutzungen – von Arbeit über Ausstellung bis Wohnen – räumlich miteinander verschränkt werden können. Ziel ist es, die bestehende städtebauliche Grenze in einen gemeinsam nutzbaren, langfristig anpassungsfähigen Raum zu transformieren.

The diploma project explores the design of a hybrid community center located at the boundary between two urban districts, where the transition is currently not perceived as a shared public space. Based on an analysis of the social infrastructure and spatial conditions, the project proposes a building complex that enables encounter and diverse forms of communal use.The central element is a ring-shaped structure that functions as both a spatial and symbolic link. The ring connects the different program areas and creates a sequence of public and semi-public interior and exterior spaces, including plaza-like situations for exchange and events. Integrated greenery and shading elements specifically enhance spatial comfort.The structure is conceived as typologically and structurally flexible, allowing different uses—such as workspaces, exhibitions, and housing—to be spatially intertwined. The aim is to transform the existing urban boundary into a shared and adaptable space that remains flexible over time.
