Doppel Helix Brücke : Brücke über 3 Ufer in Venedig

Abstract

Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit untersucht die Möglichkeit, eine Fuß- und Radfahrerbrücke mit einer organischen Tragstruktur in Form einer Doppelhelix zu entwickeln. Ausgangspunkt war die Frage, ob eine solche Konstruktion nicht nur über eine Spannweite von rund 60 Metern realisierbar ist, sondern darüber hinaus in der Lage sein kann, drei Ufer gleichzeitig miteinander zu verbinden. Als Standort wurde Venedig gewählt – eine Stadt, die durch ihr komplexes Geflecht aus Wasserwegen und ihre traditionsreiche Brückenarchitektur geprägt ist. In diesem Kontext dient das Projekt als Entwurfsstudie, die Innovation und historische Umgebung in einen spannungsreichen Dialog setzt. Die methodische Herangehensweise umfasst digitale 3D-Modellierung, Formstudien sowie die Analyse von Tragverhalten, Belichtung und Materialität. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt dabei der räumlichen Erfahrung der Brücke: Ihre helixförmige Struktur teilt sich im Verlauf und ermöglicht es, drei unterschiedliche Ufer anzubinden, wodurch neue Wegeführungen und Aufenthaltsqualitäten entstehen. Das Ergebnis ist ein Brückenentwurf, der Funktionalität und gestalterische Innovation miteinander verknüpft. Er bietet nicht nur eine technische Lösung für eine außergewöhnliche Verbindungsaufgabe, sondern versteht sich auch als Beitrag zur Diskussion über organische Formen und deren Potenzial im urbanen Kontext.

This diploma thesis explores the possibility of designing a pedestrian and bicycle bridge based on an organic structural concept in the form of a double helix. The initial question was whether such a structure could realistically span a distance of approximately 60 meters while simultaneously connecting three river banks. The chosen site is Venice, a city defined by its intricate network of waterways and its rich tradition of bridge architecture. Within this context, the project serves as a design study that places architectural innovation in dialogue with historically layered urban environment. The methodological approach includes digital 3D modeling, form-finding studies, and the analysis of structural behaviour, lighting and materiality. Particular emphasis is placed on the spatial experience of the bridge: its helical form divides at the midpoint, enabling the connection of three distinct banks and creating new routes and qualities of public space. The result is a bridge design that combines functionality with architectural innovation. It not only proposes a technical solution for an unusual infrastructural challenge but also contributes to the discussion on organic forms and their potential within the urban context.
