Public Transport Service Quality Classes (PTSQC) are compound spatiotemporal indicators used in Switzerland, Austria and Germany to assess the spatial provision with public transport. In this paper, first, we describe the history of PTSQC, its definition and calculation method, and how they contribute now to evidence-based policy-making. To propose a framework for implementing them in other regions, we carried out research to apply the PTSQC model to other countries in the European context. Through this process, we analyse the availability as well as the quality of the data needed for the calculation and assess underlying assumptions in the current PTSQC definition that stem from the three countries’ public transport systems. Based on that, we develop our recommendations for future adaptations of the model. Building upon the ones that are already addressed and implemented in local PTSQC derivatives, we discuss limitations of existing PTSQC definitions and address additional aspects that can contribute to future improvements.
