Imagining others’ opinions is a powerful social mechanism that shapes our decisions and well-being. Workers, like all individuals, form mental representations of how they believe others perceive them in relation to their work. While the deployment of collaborative robots can greatly improve efficiency and workers comfort, the way in which activities are reshaped and robots are deployed may significantly impact workers’ mental representations of how they are judged by others. Understanding how the use of robots affect workers’ perceptions of external judgment is crucial, as these perceptions can play a significant role in workers' actions, engagement, performance, and well-being. In this workshop paper, we bring this socio-psychological dynamic to light and propose a set of potential dimensions and shaping factors to consider when studying how the deployment of cobots might influence workers' perceptions of others' judgements.
