dc.description.abstract
Stroke is one of the leading causes of long-term disability, also containing cognitive and motor impairments that could also affect the independent daily living and functioning of people suffering from it. There are a few challenges, including attention deficits and memory problems. These could also affect information processing or learning. This work presents the analysis, design, and prototypical implementation of a smartphone-based serious game for attention training support, grounded in the Attention Process Training (APT) framework. Developed with domain experts and in consultation with a neurological expert, and evaluated with test participants, the solution includes a prototype and the underlying requirements for an accessible mobile serious game, demonstrating the potential of such a game-based interaction to support sustained cognitive training. The paper further discusses core design decisions, implementation considerations, and future development needs. Overall, the implementation shows that cognitive rehabilitation support via smartphones and serious games is feasible and offers a promising supplementary approach for attention training after stroke.
