Due to the economic crisis, companies are more than ever forced to improve their production operations. To be able to deliver a high number of variants of high quality goods just in time, the processes need to be lean and optimized. To improve processes in companies, the activities first need to be described in detail. The large amount of different tasks and players lead to a lack of overview. As a consequence, actually performed processes can be completely different from the described ones. This thesis investigates a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods of process analysis to enable a general view on company processes and to find possible room for improvement. The qualitative process analysis describes processes by using business process modeling techniques. The qualitative analysis focuses on the description of the flow logic, the activity flow, material flow, the information flow and the resources. The ARIS-concept is used as the basis concept for this analysis. The quantitative process analysis evaluates the processes by using different performance indicators. Value stream mapping is the main tool used for this kind of analysis. Based on this method several performance indicators have been defined and have been used to identify and quantify several weaknesses in the process. The theoretical part of this thesis covers general knowledge about organizations, industrial production, assembling, processes and qualitative and quantitative process analysis methods. The case-study of this thesis demonstrates the application of the combined application of qualitative and quantitative process analysis at the company Liebherr-Transportation Systems GmbH. The qualitative analysis was used to describe and understand all key processes in the company. It served as a basis for a subsequent quantitative analysis. Value stream mapping and multi-moment recoding were used to generate essential production figures. Using this figures weakness in the processes were found. By using the process analysis, weak points in the series production were found. The new production concept will eliminate those.
