Abstract:
Der Begriff 'smart city´ ist in aller Munde, allerdings divergieren die Meinungen über dessen Bedeutung enorm. In diesem Beitrag wird die zentrale Frage erörtert, inwiefern es sich dabei um beliebige oder vielmehr um rollen- und kontextspezifische Interpretationen eines über den Globus "wandernden" Paradigmas handelt. Zunächst werden aktuelle wissenschaftliche Ansätze zur analytischen Erfassung von "wandernden" Konzepten in Hinblick auf das Phänomen 'smart city` erörtert. In einem weiteren Schritt werden die diskursiven Ausgangspunkte der 'smart city` sowie damit assoziierte Konzepte skizziert. Aufbauend auf zentrale Kritikpunkte an 'smart city`-Konzepten folgt ein kritischer Blick auf die Ausdifferenzierung und Erweiterung der Konzepte sowie auf aktuelle Ausprägungen des 'smart city`-Begriffes in den Ländern Österreich und Indien. Schließlich werden die ortsspezifischen Folgen der unter dem Banner der 'smart city` angeleiteten Transformationsprozesse zusammenfassend kontextualisiert.
