Community-oriented maturity model for innovation in tourism

Abstract

In der vorliegenden Diplomarbeit wird ein Reifegradmodell zur Analyse der Zuverlässigkeit von Innovationsprozessen in Tourismusgebieten entwickelt. In der Einleitung werden die Motivationen sowie eine Problemdefinition zum Forschungsgegenstand erläutert. Um einen klareren Kontext bieten zu können, wird anschließend der aktuelle wissenschaftliche Forschungsstand in Bezug auf Innovationstheorie und Reifegradmodelle skizziert und bildet die theoretische Grundlage der Arbeit. Darauffolgenden wird die Entwicklung des „Community-oriented Maturity Model for Innovation in Tourism“ dokumentiert. Im Zuge der Entwicklung unterläuft das Modell einer ersten Pilot-Anwendung in zwei Tourismusgebieten in Österreich. Die theoretischen Annahmen, das Modell selbst sowie die Ergebnisse aus der Pilot-Anwendung werden ebenfalls evaluiert. Abschließend werden die Einschränkungen des Modells diskutiert und weitere Forschungsfragen, die sich im Rahmen der Evaluierung ergeben haben, in der einer Conclusio zusammengefasst.

This diploma thesis focuses on the development of a maturity model for the analysis of the reliability of innovation processes in tourist areas. The introduction includes the motivations as well as a definition of the problem of the research subject. To put the research as well as the new maturity model in a clearer context, the current state of scientific research about innovation theory and maturity models will then be outlined building the theoretical foundation of this work. The development of the "Community- oriented Maturity Model for Innovation in Tourism" will be documented. As part of its development, a first pilot application was conducted in two Austrian tourist areas. The theoretical assumptions, the model itself and the results from the pilot application will be evaluated subsequently. Based on the pilot application of the model as well as the feedback of tourism experts, its limitations and further research questions that emerged during the evaluation will be summarised.
