The rapidly growing number of photovoltaic systems and other small-scale power plants that use renewable energy such as wind, biomass, or similar energy sources to produce electrical power, issue network operators and energy suppliers new challenges. The use of renewable energy is accompanied by the problem of fluctuating power feed, which is determined mostly by local environmental factors such as solar radiation and wind levels. Moreover a large number of small producers implies a larger number of factors, influencing the electrical power grid. This thesis addresses this topic and follows the approach of using Multi-Agent Systems, to consume the locally gained electrical energy just on the spot, rather than carrying it away over the existing power grid. In the course of this work some existing frameworks for Multi-Agent Systems are compared regarding to various requirement criteria (like operational reliability, type of communication, etc.) and their fields of application into low voltage power grids is assessed. Following that, a solution approach is implemented, using a distributed system in which consumers and producers communicate with each other, to achieve an evenly distributed power grid usage. For this the existing building control systems of the houses, connected to the grid, can be used. The result shows, that in case of using Multi-Agent Systems a better load balance in the low voltage power grid can be achieved. Additionally less energy from the middle voltage power grid has to be applied. Thereby the use of renewables is more energy- and cost-efficient.
