The topic of master thesis is the urban development of cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Austro-Hungarian rule between 1878 and 1918. This master thesis should provide answers to the following questions: What are the main guidelines in urban redeveloping in this period after Ottoman rule? How did the new network of railways influence the cities development? Which cities are the main points on this network of railways? In which way were new residential, industrial, public and green zones in the cities developed? The first cadastral maps of the cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina were made in 1880-1884 and they provide the basic data for understanding the urban development of these cities. The arrival of the European -spirit- in Bosnia and Herzegovina has created an atmosphere of open construction sites and urbanization. New architectural styles were implemented. This is the period of culture, enlightenment and spiritually strengthening. The area of my research contains maps, plans and city panoramas from the -Kriegsarchiv- in Vienna and different literature. In this data analysis I will primarily use comparative methods, after that synthesis, distribution and allocation to the groups. The main goal is to understand the way in which the development of the cities in this period influenced the present urban matrix of the cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
