dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
The main issue in this Master Thesis is the comparison between conventional methods of asphalt road repair and cold recycling in situ under bulgarian conditions. The valid standards in Germany and Bulgaria are described and the advantages and possibilities for use of the two methods are given. Cold recycling in situ offers many advantages compared to the conventional method, e. g. environmental acceptability (saving of construction materials, waste disposal place, transport distance as well as the associated emissions of pollutant gases and noise), shorter construction times, higher security on the construction place and the retaining of the existing road pavement. A very important issue for the assessment of the possibilities for use is the price comparison between the two methods in Bulgaria. One chosen section of the road I-7 'Shumen - Veliki Preslav' shows potential savings using the recycling method of approximately 30%. Similar results are known from experience of other countries. In contrast to western european countries cold recycling in Bulgaria has higher importance because many roads are in very poor condition and the government has reduced its funds for road rehabilitation. This Master Thesis creates the possibility to assess roughly the economised funds from the implementation of this technology in Bulgaria.
