dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
However, the share of prevention on the general costs on health care in Austria is usually rather low, with a percentage of 1.8. This implies that the majority of the financial resources available to the Austrian health system flow into the curative categories. If prevention is to be afforded more public funds in the future, it is first necessary to establish that preventive measures are practicable, effective and efficient, as even in the area of health care financial resources are not unlimited. This evidence shall be established using economic valuation methods. Depending on the units in which the results of a specific intervention are measured, there are three methods of valuation in health economics. While the cost---benefit analysis will determine the results in monetary units, the cost---effectiveness as well as the cost---utility analysis measure the results in real---world units, such as clinical parameters or positive effects on health. Additionally, the cost---utility analysis offers the possibility to convert positive health effects into so---called utility values. Since the focus on the financial implications of health technology is to be viewed in a very critical light, due to moral reasons, those methods that do not require a monetization of health are recommended for economic evaluations in health care. Internationally, a number of studies have already been conducted, in order to analyze the cost--- effectiveness of different approaches for the primary prevention of physical inactivity, overweight and obesity in children and adolescents. From these studies, it can be deduced that the methodological structure is largely standardized. Based on these -standards-, the evaluation of the cost---effectiveness of the -daily gym lesson- leads to the conclusion that this measure can be highly recommended, not only from the viewpoint of the prevention of overweight and obesity, but also because it improves the cognitive and motor skills and effectively changes the students- health---related and social behavior and has a positive effect on their well---being.
