dc.description.abstract
More and more people suffer from depression, and this fact led to go deeper inside this subject. Discussions with doctors and therapists in the field of psychology encouraged to create a spatially organizational concept that will lead away from the idea of closed, psychiatric institutions. The main point of that project, was the idea to create a certain place for people affected by mental desease to become healthy again. The design of the rooms and units combines a variety of psychotherapeutic functional areas. At the beginning the thesis concentrates on the desease pattern of a depression and the consequences of mental illness. The design focuses on the analysis of an appropriate architecture for the mentally ill, as well as on the idea that the architecture and its location influences the regeneration of people . Because of its positive aspacts on the healing process, the surrounding nature and the landscape are integrated into the architecture. The focus of the design proposal is also to assimilate multiple functions and degrees of private space sequences harmoniously. A particular attention is given to the value of the architecture experienced by the patient. The main intention is the search for future concepts, which accelerate the healing process. While a sterile hospital atmosphere has been avoided, transparency, clarity, and the inclusion of nature and landscape has been moved in the foreground of the design. The architecture has to be consistent with the patient, the therapy and the location.
