dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
For the generation of accurate orthophotos exact digital surface models are needed. A common problem is the rounding effect that occurs during the interpolation of digital surface models and leads to inaccurate eave lines and relief displacements in orthophotos. Therefore, two methods for the automatic and exact reconstruction of eaves and thus the improvement of digital elevation models were determined in the context of this master thesis. One of them was specially developed for this research. Both methods are not restricted to eaves, but aim to reconstruct all visible edges. They need oriented aerial images as input and operate on the same principle: First edges are detected as line segments in all aerial images. Then a line segment matching is performed in order to find correspondences, which are reconstructed as three-dimensional edges by spatial intersection afterwards. If there are three or more corresponding line segments, an adjustment of differences has to be performed. Investigations of this master thesis reveal that both methods do not provide reliable results for the given aerial images that are shot in a typical urban scene. Finally, the reasons for their failure are shown by examples and thus the limitations of the algorithms are outlined.
