Combining living and working has become ever more important. Today's society is changing constantly and with it also expectations on how to reconcile family and work. For example, there are lots of self-employed people working from home which in practice is accompanied by many benefits: Not only, instead of being stuck in a traffic jam on the way to work, one can simply relax in the garden or spend time with the family, but also making use of otherwise unused rooms during the day saves costs and energy. This draft seeks to demonstrate new options of reconciling work and family life, located in a current city development area - in the surroundings of the viennese Gasometer. This area lies just 8 minutes from the city centre by the metro line U3 and therefore has significant potential. The premises themselves are located in the middle of a mixed zone and are endowed with a great infrastructure providing a strong fundamental basis for its new functions. The draft aims to propose flexible configurations in apartments, which can be adapted by short-term and long-term switch rooms according to respective living- and working conditions. The arrangement of the building ensemble on the construction site leaves space for a sort of central green space, which shall become a place for future community. Furthermore, it shall help to stabilise the fragmented surroundings and to vitalise the catchment area.
