dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
The issue of accessibility has become increasingly important in recent years. Buildings like leisure and education facilities should also be accessible for people with disabilities to give them the opportunity to take part in social life and to avoid that they are marginalized. In order to achieve that, existing buildings have to be refurbished to enable unrestricted use. People involved in these renovations need an accurate understanding about planning fundamentals in terms of accessibility. Unfortunately some people lack understanding and awareness of need for equality for people with disability and refuse to bear the costs of renovations. The aim of this master thesis is to introduce a serious game named OpenAccess that was implemented as part of the master thesis and is based on the planning basics of the ÖNORM B 1600. The Serious Game helps to impart knowledge about accessibility and demonstrates the necessity of eliminating barriers. Firstly, the rudiments which were important for the implementation of the serious game will be explained and an overview about known methods from serious game design and strategies as well as essentials standards found in the ÖNORM B 1600 are given. Second, in the further course the development of the idea and concept of the serious game will be shown. The last part of the master thesis consists of the evaluation of the serious game which has shown that people that have none to few knowledge about accessibility gained more skills by playing OpenAccess.
