Die Gartenfabrik : Wohnen und Produzieren auf der Elbinsel Wilhelmsburg in Hamburg

Abstract

Der Europan 14 Wettbewerb - Die Produktive Stadt - beschäftigte sich mit der Frage, wie das aktuelle städtebauliche Leitbild der gemischten Stadt auch mit der bisher außer Acht gelassenen Nutzung, der produktiven Ökonomie, vereinbar ist. Die umweltfreundlicheren Produktionsweisen ermöglichen es, einen Teil der wirtschaftlichen Aktivitäten wieder zurück in die Stadtkerne zu integrieren. Es entstehen lebendige urbane Quartiere, die eine Stadt der kurzen Wege unterstützen. Wie können solche Entwürfe konkret umgesetzt werden? Gesucht wurden zukunftsweisende, kreative Ideen für 44 europaweite Standorte. Das Konzept der Gartenfabrik ist eine Antowrt auf diese Aufgabenstellung am Standort Wilhelmsburg in Hamburg. Es entsteht ein Gebäudekomplex, der die Durchmischung der Funktionen Wohnen und Produzieren in sich trägt. Über einen produktiven Sockel werden unterschiedliche Gewerbefunktionen aufgenommen. Darüber entwickeln sich, in ihrer Größe und Form, differenzierte Wohneinheiten. Als verbindendes Element wird die Dachfläche des Gewerbes zu einer Gartenlandschaft ausgebildet. Es entsteht eine neue Stadtebene.

The europan 14 competition - Productive City - asks the question, whether it is possible to combine the two ideas of the current approach on urban architecture, the „ mixed city“, on the one hand with the up to now mostly neglected aspect of economic productivity on the other hand. The more and more eco-friendly ways of production nowadays allow to bring back economic activities into the city center. In that way it is possible to create vivid, urban neighbourhoods which support the concept of short journey city. How is it possible to transform that idea into real life? To answer that question the competition searched for forward-looking ideas in 44 different locations all over europe. The concept of the „Gardenfactory“ is one answer to that question located in Hamburg Wilhelmsburg. An ensemble of buildings who combines the two aspects of living and producing is developed. The ground floor of the complex provides space for the productive character of the concept. On top of that, the living area represented by apartments in different sizes is located. The link between these two aspects is created by a garden landscape on the roof of the ensemble. In that way a new urban enviroment emerges.
