The present work represents the thermodynamic and thermokinetic modeling of Fe, Mn- and/or Cr-containing dispersoids for AA-6xxx series of aluminum alloys. Hereby microstructure development during cast and homogenization treatments is of main interest. Experimental investigation is concentrated on the standard range of technical alloy AA-6061. Microstructure investigation on industrial cast material showed that the main proportion of primary phases consists of a-Al(CrMnCu)FeSi, ß-Al(CrMnCu)FeSi, and Mg2Si. It has been found that there are Cu, Mn and/or Cr inclusions in the a-AlFeSi as well as in the ß-AlFeSi phase. The same trace of Cu, Mn and/or Cr in alpha dispersoids has been shown in TEM investigations for the homogenized alloys as well. The published literature about thermodynamic description of these two phase did not covered these inclusions until this study, therefore the thermodynamic description of primary phases ß-Al5FeSi and a-Al12Mn3Si have been reassessed for the commercial alloy series of AA-6xxx based on the experimental investigations. The Cr, Mn, and Cu inclusions are introduced in the thermodynamic phase description and phases are renamed as a- and ß-Al(CrMnCu)FeSi. Furthermore an optimization on the thermodynamic description of ß-Al13Fe4 and G-Al6Mn(Fe) phases has been carried out. An internal MatCalc thermodynamic database version "mc_al_v1.011.tdb" for the AA-6xxx has been established. Scheil Gulliver simulations based on reassessed thermodynamic database showed very good agreement with the experiments. So that the identity and the phase fraction of primary phases to be solidified in cast process is successfully determined from simulations. For the thermokinetic modeling a special emphasis has been placed on the Zener Drag influencing parameters, size and number density of the dispersoids. A comprehensive study of the effect of different homogenization treatment procedures on these parameters has been carried out. It has been shown that during the heating to the commercial homogenization temperature, a dispersoid phase, referred to as "a-Al(CrMnCu)FeSi" precipitates. Dispersoid precipitates stay stable during all applied heat treatments. A bigger size population of a-Al(CrMnCu)FeSi dispersoids has been found on grain boundaries than the one in Bulk, which is formed after ß to - phase transformation. The experimental studies showed that in some cases the primary Mg2Si is dissolved and in others stayed stable till the end of homogenization treatment. There has been a ß' (B1+U1+U2) precipitation observed, where these precipitates dissolve during the homogenization treatment. Secondary precipitation of stable Mg2Si phase observed too. Depending on the cooling rates from homogenization temperature to room temperature precipitation of metastable AlMgSi(Cu) phases such as ß'' and/or ß' (also B1, U1 and U2) are observed. In the case of air cooling these metastable precipitates are present in the homogenized microstructure, where the water quenched microstructure is free from these precipitates. The acquired knowledge has been used to develop a computational modeling technique. The developed technique is implemented to predict the dispersoid precipitation and microstructural evolution during cast and homogenization treatments for the AA-6xxx alloy series. A good quantitative agreement is found between the model predictions and the results from the experimental investigations.
