dc.description.abstract
Electronic learning resources, such as learning programs, image databases, videos and screencasts are currently widely used at universities and schools as teaching material in order to enhance learning. Many students struggle to identify which adjunct material will best suit their needs. The Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Wien) provides students access to a lot of these e-Resources. In order to allow the students to quickly determine the most relevant learning resource to them, a rating system was designed and implemented at the MedUni Wien. This system is intended to be used by students, as well as lecturers and other professionals and its use should also lead to further improvements of the quality of the provided e-Resources. Therefore, the focus of this rating system lay on certain aspects, most importantly on content quality, relevance for exams and usability. It was important to identify the criteria by which the e-Resources can be rated. Additionally, the user requirements to such a rating system were gathered. This was accomplished by interviewing experts from different departments and carrying out an online survey amongst the students. Finally, by analyzing existing systems and platforms the question of how the new rating system could be embedded in the environment was answered. As a result a platform was selected on which the rating system could be implemented and with this platform the underlying programming language and how the graphical user interface will look like was defined.
