dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
The keyword Industry 4.0 describes the vision of a completely digitized production landscape in which people, machines, systems and products communicate and cooperate autonomously. A key element in realizing this vision are context-aware systems. They are able of sensing their environment and adapting to the current context as well as providing customized services. Despite the resulting advantages, the development of context-aware systems in the industrial environment (B2B) is usually limited to special cases and feasibility studies. One of the main problems is that the existing process models are primarily focused on the domain-specific design and the system integration, the system analysis and the system design, however, are not or only marginally considered. In addition, there are hardly any methods or techniques to support complex context-aware problems and the verification and validation is mainly aimed at complete systems. As a result, there is a substantial need for a process model for the analysis and design of context-aware systems, as well as for methodical support for related activities, tasks, and problems. In the course of this work, a process model for the context-aware system analysis and design is presented. The model is not to be understood as an independent approach, but rather as an extension to the established process models for the development of technical systems. In addition, different methods to support system analysis, system design, and verification and validation are being developed. These methods simplify the development process by providing structured approaches for recurring context-aware tasks and problems. Following the theoretical elaboration, the process model and the associated methods are evaluated in an industrial case study. Thereby, a context-aware information system is analysed and designed that supports the workers on the shop floor of an injection moulding manufacturer. The novelty of this work is characterized by the explicit focus on system analysis and system design, both in the development of the procedural model and in the supporting methods. This distinguishes the present work from the approaches presented so far, which are primarily focused on domain-specific design and system integration.
