dc.description.abstract

With the emergence of unprecedented technologies and production processes new timber construction systems developed on the timber construction market. These construction systems become increasingly popular for architects and building owners due to the possibility of prefabrication and the quick assembly. The industrial fabrication of these elements takes place in big factory halls that are additionally equipped with computer-aided systems and robots. It is therefore not possible for small handicraft businesses to produce such timber products autonomously. The present thesis develops a competitive, resource-efficient, tinder-based ceiling element that can be produced in traditional handicraft businesses. Resource-efficiency in that case means the lowest possible application of raw material, time, logistic effort, financial means, environmental burden and workload, to guarantee the highest possible benefits. The environmental burden of ceiling constructions is reduced through the application of innovative nails made of beech, that are also especially characterized by their time-saving usage. The wooden nails are coiled on a pneumatic nailer and can be shot into the wood afterwards. The load-deformation behaviour of these new nails is not yet known, but will be required for further treatment of the subject matter. This thesis therefore investigates the load-bearing behaviour of these nails through constructional experiments. For the determination of a suitable ceiling structure, four fundamental ceiling types are static-economically regarded. In terms of the equivalent static bearing, the ribbed slab has exposed as the most economical variant. In further consequence the conventional ceiling-systems are static-ecologically compared. In this section the environmental influence of various connection means on the ceiling construction is compiled. For an economical evaluation of the overall construction, it is inevitable to ascertain the ecological parameters of all materials used. Helpful in this matter are data banks provided by independent institutions, that make environmental information on construction products available. For the newly available wooden nails, no such environmental information is existent. For that reason, the ecological parameters of the wooden nails are calculated in this thesis. The construction variant of the ribbed slab has been proved as most efficient also in terms of static-ecologic consideration. In further consequence, the ribbed slab is optimized in ultimate limit state and serviceability limit state. In the final chapter, the defined construction-physics and fire-protection requirements for the ribbed slab are ensured through the adaptation of construction parts. The fire-protection requirements in Austria are defined by the Austrian Institute of Construction Engineering. Buildings are grouped into building classes with different fire-protection requirements. Eventually, a component catalogue is developed, in which ceiling-systems fulfil the requirements of the respective building class.
