VI Abstract The focus of this research is in the area of Development of a Manufacturing and Factory Planning Process in view of Engines, Transmissions and Components for Engineering Service Providers in the Automotive Industry. A major part of this research was developed using the experience of internal company sources, interviews and meetings with specialists in the fields of Production Planning, Production Management, Production Consultants and Company Directors. The specific research questions were: generically cover Engines, Transmissions and their Components, which are the main elements of the automotive powertrain. be flexible and modular for diverse customers in various countries with different work splits between the customer and the ESP As shown by the case studies the process has been successfully implemented for different products in different countries, although none of the case studies involved the ESP for the complete process the customers in all cases used the information provided by the process to realise the Start of Production. Further development of the process could be taken in view of three areas: Development to include the manufacturing / factory planning of raw part production for example Castings, Forging etc. The addition of a module to support the integration of future hybrid systems manufacture in existing facilities. Industry 4.0 will have a major influence on the future manufacturing / factory planning therefore an additional module focused on the requirements for Industry 4.0 should be investigated.
