dc.description.abstract

The main part of this diploma thesis is to investigate the concept of a new active cooling element made of cellular concrete with addition of wood chips (radiation cooling ceiling). Under new means the much higher water storage capacity and moisture release of the cooling element, which means that the cooling process does not switch off even after reaching the dew point, whereby the cooling capacity can be increased by a significant.Conventional cooling ceilings (made of plasterboard elements or metal elements, etc.) are flowed through by a cooling medium (water), which reduces their surface temperature. By convection and radiation, these cooling elements release their “cooling energy” to the room, which lowers the room temperature. Due to the risk of condensate formation, care must be taken with these conven-tional cooling elements that their surface temperature does not fall below the dew point tempera-ture of the room air. In summer, the dew point temperature is about 16 ° C, this means that the conventional cooling elements can only be flowed through with a cooling medium (water) which is not colder than circa 16 ° C. The special feature of the cooling ceiling made of cellular concrete is that this material absorbs very well moisture (water) and thus can be used as a moisture buffer. This distinguishes this cool-ing ceiling system from conventional products and opens up new application possibilities in all directions in the construction industry. Due to the moisture buffer of aerated concrete, it is possible to fall below the just mentioned dew point temperature inside the cooling plate. As a result, the flow temperature of the cooling element can be lowered much further in contrast to commercial products. The cooling capacity of cooling systems increases as the temperature difference between the cooling system and the cooling room temperature increases. This means an increase in performance over conventional products. From this it can be concluded that a cooling element in which it is possible to fall below the dew point temperature, a higher performance is achieved than in a cooling element of the same size, in which the dew point must not be exceeded. Compared to previously known cooling ceiling systems, con-densation formation for the cooling ceiling made of cellular concrete is no problem. Two feasibility studies were carried out at the Vienna University of Technology, one for aerated concrete and one for radiant cooling elements “Coolplaster”, (2 FFG research projects Nr. 573636 and Nr. 696592), here is the cooling element a vapor-permeable aerated concrete cooling plate with very high cool-ing capacity. In this thesis, the use of wood chips tries to minimize the weight of the cooling plates and at the same time to maintain the cooling performance. This would mean a lower assembly load and thus, easier assembly (low weight). The panels can be made in larger dimensions, which can reduce assembly time. In addition, climate conditions are used to simulate extreme room condi-tions such as high indoor air temperature in combination with different indoor air humidity in order to determine the hygrothermal behavior and the cooling capacity. In the further part of this work the production and the assembly of the aerated concrete cooling plate is explained in detail and graphically represented. The aerated concrete cooling plate was produced in the warehouse of “DIFFUPOR”, the assembly carried out in the “OBKIRCHER OG” engineering firm for technical building equipment. After assembly measurements were taken un-der different room conditions, finally the measurement results and the cooling capacity of the cel-lular concrete cooling ceiling were compared with the results of the aerated concrete cooling ceil-ing from the test setup. The aim of this comparison is to find out how the cellular concrete cooling ceiling behaves in typical office use, in contrast to the test setup. The last part of this thesis deals with the comparison of the measurement results and the cooling performance of the cellular concrete cooling ceiling and the aerated concrete slab with addition of wood chips.
