Abstract:
The globalization of the labor market and the high competition of companies on talent led to a boom in online and social recruitment. Organizations need to further promote their working environment, corporate culture and values. This led to the development of new trends and to the adoption of new communication channels that enable companies to attract talent. The scarce availability of young talent forced companies to move especially towards social media to increase the reach of candidates. Thus, social media had in the past years a dominant impact in the field of recruitment. In fact, social media changed behaviors of users and fostered the opportunity for self-presentation and social interaction. Due to these trends, this thesis investigates new design elements of online recruitment platforms to expose young talents from the creative field to prospective employers. This research does not only consider the adoption of young talents to new online recruitment platforms leveraging existing social media, but also integrates the employers’ perspective into the analysis. The thesis will derive new design elements from recruitment industry trends, user behaviors and social media to integrate them in a new online recruiting platform design for Egypt. These design elements that were initially derived from the literature review will be validated by recruiters and young talents from Egypt in a workshop using wireframes developed by the author. The findings of the work show that there is a high tendency of adoption of online recruitment platforms that integrate design elements such as multimedia resumes, a social network and direct communication between young talent and recruiters using chat functionalities. This master thesis contributes to the scarce available literature in online recruitment with a special focus on social media and the trends of multimedia resumes and social recruiting. According to the author’s knowledge, this is the first work in which potential social media design elements are derived for integration in online recruitment platforms.
