dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
The following master thesis deals with a selection of measurement systems, which seems to be able to detect ice and snow attachments on the undersurface of trains. The sensor should be located in the ballast substructure or in the tie between the two rails. The measuring process should happen during the crossing of the train at a crossing speed of 60 to 80 kilometer per hour. The evaluation of the measuring results should take place in an automatic process with a direct output whether the ice and snow adhension is dangerous or not. At first an overview of the theory of the considered measurement systems is given. Afterwards examples of sensors, which are available on the market nowadays and possibly suitable for this measurement problem, are introduced. The first two chapters are written on the basis of a broad internet and literature research about contactless distance measurement systems. Then a short description about the ice and snow attachments is shown. They were inspected at a service location of the ÖBB in Vienna called -Traktionsstandort Matzleinsdorf- in January 2016. Additionally different evaluation possibilities and their integration in existing security systems of infrastrucutre operating companies are written. As an intermediate result the considered measurement systems are discussed with experts from sensor manufacturer companies. The result of the expert discussions about the suitability of the considered measurement systems is written. To find a final result, which of the considered measurment systems seems to master the measurement problem best, two matrices to compare the systems with each other are generated. At first they are evaluated without any weighting of the columns. Then two examples of a reasonable weighting of the columns are shown. After this evaluation a final decision about the most suitable measurment system can be made.
