Schulfreiräume gewinnen in den letzten Jahren international immer mehr an Bedeutung als notwendige Ergänzungs- und Erweiterungsmöglichkeiten von Lernumgebungen für Kinder und Jugendliche.<br />Dabei ist das Vorhandensein von nutzbaren Freiräumen ebenso ein Kriterium wie deren Aussehen und Einbindung in den Schulalltag. In dieser Arbeit wird ein Modell für Wien entwickelt, das Freiräume zum Lernen in Bewegung für die Sekundarstufe unabhängig von Schulgebäuden erschließt.<br />Ausgehend von Stellenwert und Bedeutungswandel von Schulfreiraum in Österreich wird der Ist-Zustand bei Schulgebäuden in den Bezirken 1 bis 9 anhand von Untersuchungen an drei Standorten nähergebracht. Dem gegenübergestellt werden die Aufgaben die Schulfreiraum heute zu erfüllen hätte. Es wird gezeigt, dass mit der Erweiterung des Begriffes "Schulfreiraum" und in den pädagogischen Rahmenbedingungen in Österreich die Möglichkeit vorbereitet ist, Freiräume in der Stadt als Lernorte zur Verfügung zu stellen und zu nutzen.<br />Aus diesen Ansätzen entwickelt sich die Idee Schulfreiraumbedarf zu bündeln und als gewidmeten Freiraum "OPEN-AIR-Schule" zugänglich zu machen. Im Entwurf auf der Donauinsel entstehen durch die Überlagerung der Prinzipien "Bewegung" und "Orientierung" Räume, die als vorbereitete Umgebung in unterschiedlicher Ausformung Unterricht im Freien ermöglichen.<br />
