Abstract:
Within the frame of this Master`s Thesis the approaching flow conditions to a block-type low head plant was investigated. By the new construction of such a facility, and the reconstruction as well, a high turbine efficiency of the power plant should be achieved. The research work was carried out as a part of a larger research project at the Hy-draulic Laboratory of the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources of the Vienna University of Technology.
In the presented thesis paper various plant operating conditions and various power-house intake geometries such as bottom slopes and separation pier shapes were investigated and their effect on the approaching flow conditions by means of velocity distributions analyzed.
The data was based on velocity measurements with an ADV probe in the upstream domain, in front of the trash rack and in front of the turbine.
The measurements were evaluated by means of different criteria regarding the velocity distribution.
Based on the data obtained, velocity and flow patterns were generated, which facili-tated a comparison of the inflow condition between the tested variants.
