Grundstück - Brand Laaben liegt am Fuße des "Schöpfl`s", der höchsten Erhebung des Wienerwaldes, und ist ein beliebter Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge und Wanderungen. Laaben ist ca. 30 Fahrminuten von St.<br />Pölten und Wien entfernt. Das Grundstück liegt im Ortskern mit darauf situierter bestehenden Volkschule und Turnsaal. Die Topografie des Geländes wird durch einen Niveausprung im Osten charakterisiert. Entwurf - Der neue Schulkomplex "KVL" lässt sich in 3 Funktionsbereiche gliedern. In eine Volkschule, einen 3-gruppigen Kindergarten und einen Turnsaal. Während Volkschule und Kindergarten nur zu den normalen Betriebszeiten genützt werden, ist der Turnsaal auch am Abend für Vorträge, Veranstaltungen oder von örtlichen Vereinen bespielbar. Der Turnsaal sollte über einen Vorplatz mit ausreichendem Parkplatzangebot und einem repräsentativen Eingangsbereich verfügen.<br />Durch die Ausrichtung zum Ortszentrum hin, vermittelt er einen eigenständigen, öffentlich nutzbaren Charakter. In Richtung Osten werden die Kindergartengruppenräume situiert. Hier ergibt sich ein wunderbarer Blick auf dem "Weickmannriedel", dem Rodelhang im Winter. Die vorgelagerte Grünfläche wird als Freiraum für den Kindergarten nutzbar gemacht.<br />Im Süden befindet sich der Volkschultrakt mit dem anschließenden Schul-, und Pausenhof. Hier gilt es Freiräume zum Gewerbe hin zu positionieren, die Einfamilienhäuser vor zu hoher Lärmbelästigung zu schützen und die bestehende Sonneneinstrahlung sowie Aussicht zu erhalten. Die Volkschule erhält einen eigenen Haupteingang. Dabei wird es notwendig sein, einen großzügigen Vorplatz zu schaffen um den Kindern und Eltern ausreichend Platz zu bieten und den nötigen Abstand zur Hauptstrasse zu gewährleisten.<br /> Formgebung - Durch die generierte Gebäudeform, werden die Freiräume von Kindergarten und Volkschule zur Straße hin abgeschirmt. Jeweils zwei "Arme" umschließen einen Freibereich (Volkschule, Kindergarten). Durch die Gebäudeform wird der Aussenraum gegliedert und zoniert. Die separaten Eingänge teilen die Kinderströme vormittags auf und sind so positioniert, das ein gesicherter An-, und Abholvorgang gewährleistet ist.<br />Die innere Erschließung erfolgt über ein zentrales Foyer, von wo aus alle Ebenen über eine Treppe oder barrierefrei über einen Lift erreichbar sind. Das Zentrum ist flächenmäßig größer ausgeführt um zusätzliche Bereiche wie Lernfreiräume, Bibliothek oder Gruppenarbeitsplätze zu integrieren und somit ein individuelles Lernen zu ermöglichen.<br />Die Klassenräume der Volkschule und Gruppenräume des Kindergartens, sind Richtung Osten und Süden ausgerichtet, mit direktem Blickbezug zu den Freibereichen. Der Turnsaal wird über die Nord-, und Westseite belichtet um störende Blendeffekte zu verhindern. Die jeweiligen Nebenräume werden zwischen Erschließungsflächen und Klassen-, Gruppenräumen angeordnet.<br />Fassade & Form - Diese zielt darauf ab, weiche Rundungen zu erzeugen, ähnlich den Kinderspielzeugen (abgerundete Kanten). Für die großflächigen Öffnungen, wird die Fassadenhülle als "Schlafdecke" betrachtet. Sie wird angehoben, wo ein starker natürlicher Lichteinfall benötigt wird (Eingangsbereiche, Gruppenräume, Klassenzimmer) und abgesenkt in den Räumen, wo die punktuelle Belichtung ausreicht. Die punktuelle Belichtung durch die perforierten Fassadenplatten, wird entweder als Erweiterung zur Glasfläche oder als Beleuchtung für die Nebenräume eingesetzt.
