dc.description.abstract
dc.description.abstract
This thesis deals with the way young people approach and perceive informatics/ computer science and how this can be influenced.
In the course of this thesis, informatics/computer science is therefore examined in its scientific, societal and academic context. Especially studies about the perception as well as the curricular implementation of informatics/computer science are researched.
As a way to deal with the current perception of informatics/computer science, a lecture series was developed in course of a study exchange with the Freie Universität Berlin which focused on an innovative method for planning, conducting and reviewing informatics/computer science classes. A shortened form of this series was held at three Viennese secondary schools. Their impact on the perception of informatics/computer science was evaluated.
Main finding of this thesis is that the individual attitude towards informatics/ computer science is based on a number of influences, from private and professional approaches to the presentation in the media and the informatics/computer science education at schools. This perception is mostly linked with negative associations.
The approach to cope with this perception in early informatics/computer science education shows positive results. Furthermore current issues concerning the quality and quantity of the informatics/computer science education could be detected.
