Free falling water jets are often used in different hydraulic structures. In this paper the results from an experimental study conducted to investigate vertical velocities in free falling water jets in air and the mechanics of their disintegration are reported.<br />Experiments were conducted in the Hydraulic Laboratory of the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management, Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien). The measurements were obtained by the use of high speed photography. Using this data, six different cases (velocity profiles) were obtained and compared. Those cases include water velocity measurements from four different nozzles and various flows.
