Abstract:
Data sets in applied statistical analysis often contain a large number of samples. Sometimes, instead of the whole data set it is desired to use just a subset of these samples for data analysis.
This thesis is about subsets in DASplusR, a software package which provides a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the free statistic software R.
The thesis describes the different ways of how to generate such subsets, rename them or change their size by using graphical windows. It also shows the procedure for deleting, selecting and sorting subsets via Graphical User Interfaces. Selecting subsets is used to continue the data analysis with just a few subsets instead of all of them and sorting is useful for getting a better overview about the existing subsets.
Further this thesis describes the usage of subsets in different diagrams such as boxplot, ternary plot, histogram, xy-plot and density trace plot.
The main task, however, was developing and adapting the programs and the corresponding GUI's. Thus, the code of the developed software is the main part of this thesis. This can be found in the DASplusR package which can be downloaded from the homepage of Rudolf Dutter, professor at the Vienna University of Technology (http://www.statistik.tuwien.ac.at/public/dutt)
