Abstract:
At the Technical University Vienna, Institute for Structural Engineering - Steel Constructions, physical experiments on new type shear connectors for composite steel and concrete structures have been done since 2004. The Crowndowel resulted from these experiments as a new geometry for the teeth of the shear connectors. Three series of push-out tests were carried out in order to investigate the load carrying and deforming behaviour of the Crowndowel. In addition, the FEpackage ABAQUS is used for the numerical simulation of the push-out tests.
This thesis covers numerical simulations of the push-out tests of the second experimental series, using the FE-package ABAQUS. Within an extensive parametric study, 152 numerical simulations were being accomplished. The aim of this study was to calibrate the FE-models according to the specimen of the experimental investigations, so that they can reproduce the push-out tests close-to-reality.
The material models used for the FE-modelling could be verified by the comparison of numeric solutions of simple static problem definitions with appropriate analytic solutions.
The load-carrying and deformation behaviour of a specific push-out test specimen was being examined in detail. For this purpose, the stresses and deformations of the test specimen's dowel sheet under load levels, which represent characteristic locations of the numerically determined load-deformation curve, were evaluated and analysed. In this way, the distribution of the actual test load upon the specific steel teeth could be determined during the numeric simulation. Building up on the knowledge of the stress evaluation in characteristic sections of the dowel sheet, a load carrying model for the push-out test specimen, consisting of tension and compression shores, could be derived from the numeric results.
This load carrying model can be used in further consequence for the development of new push-out test specimens.
