Techniken und Werkzeuge für objekt-relationale Abbildungen

Abstract

Jede Applikation, die Daten in einer relationalen Datenbank speichert, benötigt eine Abbildung von ihren internen Strukturen auf die rigiden Strukturen der Datenbank. Während manchen Applikationen eine einfache Identitätsabbildung von Tabellen auf Wertlisten genügt, benötigen objekt-orientierte Programmiermodelle reichhaltigere Abbildungen, um die flexiblen Objekt-Strukturen ausnützen zu können.<br />Nach einer Einführung in die Grundlagen der relationalen und objekt-orientierten Modellierung wird anhand von zwei Open Source Projekten die automatisierte Unterstützung objekt-relationaler Abbildungen mit der manuellen Programmierung verglichen. Dabei zeigt sich, dass automationsunterstützte Abbildungen die Programmkomplexität deutlich reduzieren.<br />Den Abschluß bildet ein Vergleich dieser Werkzeuge gegenüber den klassischen Definitionen von objekt-orientierten Datenbanken.<br />

Many applications save their data in relational databases. Each of these applications needs a mapping from internal data structures to the constrained structures of the database. While some applications' needs are served with a simple identity mapping from tables to lists of values, object oriented programming models need richer mappings to reap the benefits of their flexible object structures.<br />After a introduction into the basics of relational and object oriented modelling, a implementation of a simple example database is compared using two open source projects and a home grown implementation. This comparison shows how the automated mappings reduce programming complexity without sacrifising run time performance.<br />A comparison of those tools with the classic defintion of object oriented databases concludes the thesis.<br />
