Abstract:

The implementation and validation of a mathematical model to calculate fungi growth on surfaces in the hygrothermal simulation program HAM4D_VIE is presented.Theoretical backgrounds for hygrothermal simulation and dierent mould growth models will be discussed as well as the process of implementation and validation of the mathematical model in the simulation program. Furthermore, the application of the newly implemented functions are shown by calculating the mould index of an example taken from the draft of the ÖNORM 8110-2 2019. The process of implementation and validation showed some difficulties regarding the consistency of the mathematical model for certain boundary conditions. The profound work with a hygrothermal simulation program that comes with implementing a new function showed that complex simulation results should always be questioned and validated. Therefore, the knowledge of the user regarding the underlying foundations of these simulations has to rise to ensure competent interpretation of these results.
