Mader, M. (2008).
Aim of this work ist to analyse if an sozio-economic improvement can be reached by enhancing local economies in local districts of Vienna which also introduces positive impacts on the whole city. It was important to define the different connotations of the term "local economy" and to define a possible meaning for the City of Vienna. In this discussion local economies are also calld "solidarity economy" or "community-based economics" / "community economics". Referring to Vienna the understanding of local economies gives more emphasis to local economic factors that to the "solidarity economy" or "community-based economics".
In addition to "solidarity economy" and "community-based economics" local economy shows a territorial allocation and considers the network of diffrent economic ways on a specific place. The issue of socio-spatial trends like "reurbanisation" and "gentrification" will be broached and discussed in how far this spatial trends appear in Vienna and if they might support local economies.
The empiric part contains a qualitative analysis and comparison of two quarters in Vienna. Using guided interviews local economists have been asked about their motives of the founding of their company, about location factors for their choice of their office or salesroom and challanges in order to find adequate instruments to reach an enhancement in deprived quarters by building local economies.
