Abstract:
With the advance of networking and globalisation competition has increased tremendously on the free market over the past few decades. The customers react to this competition with growing self-confidence and a critical comparison of offers. They have a growing readiness to break with tradition and select new suppliers to meet their needs. A company is successful if it centres its business efforts around the requirements of individual customers and on offering innovative, high-quality, competitively priced products and services. Process management, as comprehensive management tool, supports this demand by devising, evaluating, structuring and continuously improving business processes, which focuse on customers' needs. Companies pay special attention to their employees, as they are the 'biggest asset'.
The aim of the paper on hand is to present process management in a system-oriented manner and to holistically describe process management for companies realising their regular business activities through projects and services. In the first two chapters I will discuss some fundamental conditions and pre-requisites for process management; in chapter three I will look at considerations concerning process-oriented organisational forms and then go on to discuss some ways in which to use project and process management in a process-oriented environment.
Chapter four deals with the company-wide introduction of process management as project activity, under consideration of the aspects process analysis, process description and definition; there will also be some thoughts on motivational groundwork. The ensuing application as comprehensive management tool, which affects all organisational areas, is examined in the last two chapters. Goals and measurable gathering of results yielded by these processes are very important topics in ensuring process quality and in striving for continuous improvements.
