Abstract:
Mobile working is part of the daily life and people increasingly want to be able to work without an electric supply. Not only laptops and mobile phones but also accumulator driven power tools allow it to get work done more efficiently.
The rapid developments in the sector of battery technology offering new possibilities in the field of power electronics in order to use it portable.
The increasing demands in mobility are taken into account by designing a battery powered DC-DC converter. In order to adapt the converter to variable requirements, the output characteristic is arbitrary.
First, an appropriate accumulator is selected and the underlying technology is discussed in more detail. Subsequently, useable converter topologies are checked for their applicability by using a simulation. In favor of the robustness and the load change behavior, a two-stage buck-boost converter with auxiliary switch is chosen.
The selected converter topology uses hard-switching transistors. To make the best possible use of the battery capacity, a discharge circuit for the buck converter is realized. For this purpose, after literature research, the most promising soft switching networks are verified in simulation. If the simulation is as expected, the discharge circuit is realized on the system. Based on the measurements, statements about the benefits of each discharge circuit are carried out.
Discharge with an active snubber is finally chosen because it allows the greatest gain in efficiency. Thus a special importance in this work is to achieve the highest possible efficiency.
