Baum, A. M. (2007).
Chloride induced corrosion is caused by extraneous influences such as precautionary spreading of salt in winter or trough PVC-combustion. Further it matters if the structure is an inshore or offshore building. In this connection you have to distinguish between planned exposure and unscheduled exposure through chloride, like for example by a change of the estimated use.
The ability of the concrete to accumulate chlorides depends on the one hand on the quantitative availability of chloride and on the other hand it depends on the quality of the concrete and therefore on its specific mixture.
To avoid chloride induced corrosion, many different forms of surface treatments and applications have been developed, which should avoid the ingress of chlorides into the concrete.
This paper examines the ingress of chloride into concrete which surface had been treated with paraffin dispersion. Within this work it has been tried to develop and furthermore to conduct different tests to study the blocking of the ingress of chlorides by using paraffin. Basically the different tests consider the different ways how the chloride is transported into the concrete.
The most important forms of chloride ingress are capillary transport and diffusion, whereas in most cases both are responsible for chloride ingress into concrete. To be able to evaluate the quality of the concrete or its surface treatment in a considerable period of time, chloride transport through migration was also tested. Within this thesis I deal with the accomplishment of the tests and the analyses of the samples. Furthermore a Rapid Migration Test is developed.
