Gajdoš, A. (2020). A dialogue that never was : a museum for grandfather [Diploma Thesis, Technische Universität Wien]. reposiTUm. https://doi.org/10.34726/hss.2020.75780
I took this opportunity to deal with a very personal topic - to design a museum for my grandfather, who was a sculptor. The project consists of two volumes - a museum for his wooden sculptures and drawings from his oeuvre and a cultural centre with multipurpose hall for 120 people. The project is set in the centre of his hometown Spisske Podhradie, a small historic town in the northeastern part of Slovakia called Spiš (Ger.Zips). For the first time in my life I really went deep into my grandfathers work, in order to understand it from the formal, philosophical and contextual perspective. Furthermore I tried to comprehend the historical and architectural circumstances of Spiš region, as well as needs of the local community. Topics of sustainable materiality and architectural tectonics were crucial phenomenons of this thesis, creating answers for questions that arose during the process.
