Sinfonie - ein Gesamtkonzept für das wachsende Stadtzentrum Passaus (D)

Abstract

Die Diplomarbeit beinhaltet ein städtebauliches Gesamtkonzept, aus dem sich drei Gebäudeentwürfe und ein neu geschaffener Stadtplatz ergeben. Das 2008 unvollständig erweiterte Stadtzentrum des historischen Stadtkerns Passaus, soll in Folge eines Architekturwettbewerbs einen Audimax bekommen, der auch als Konzerthaus funktionieren wird. Der Bauplatz dafür ist direkt am Gebäude der angrenzenden Brauerei vorgesehen. Die Diplomarbeit enthält ein Gesamtkonzept, welches den Stadtraum als Ganzen, zusammenhängend weiterentwickelt. Die Grundlage dafür setzt die unter- irdische Verlegung des motorisierten Individualverkehrs mit einem MobilityHub, welches für autonome Fahrzeuge der Zukunft, als auch für den gegenwärtigen Verkehr, sowie den Übergangszeitraum funktioniert. Darüber entsteht der Impulsgeber für den Stadtraum, der Audimax Er richtet seine öffenbare Bühne in Richtung des Marktplatzes mit der historischen Stiftfassade als freigestellte Kulisse. Ziel des Entwurfs ist die Qualität des neuen Stadtzentrums auf dem Platz zu vereinigen. Die klare Richtung des Impulses des Konzerthauses wird durch die historische Kulisse des Stifts und einer neu gestalteten, klaren Linie von Arkaden eingefasst. Die räumliche Qualität des neutralen Platzes wird abgeschlossen durch die Integration der Brauerei, ein neues Gebäude, welches sich mit seiner Geste einfassend davor stellt, die Brauerei aber nicht verdeckt, sondern durch die Nutzung und Gestaltung auf den Platz bringt. Das Konzept funktioniert in der momentanen Situation, in einer Zukunft ohne Brauerei oder mit einer Umnutzung der Brauerei. Es ist der flexible Baustein für eine zukünftige Entwicklung, von der nur die Richtung aber nicht die inhaltliche Form bekannt ist. Die Zonierung des Platzes bildet den Rahmen für die gegenwärtige Nutzungs- nachfrage, ermöglicht aber auch eine Änderung für zukünftige Anforderungsprofile, ohne die räumliche Qualität des Stadtraums vermindern zu müssen. Der Platz lädt auf dem abgestuften, Amphitheater ähnlichen Bereich zum Konzerthaus hin, vor allem zum Verweilen und Besuchen von Vorstellungen ein. Der ebene Bereich bietet eine großzügige, neutrale Fläche für diverse Veranstaltungen oder temporäre Bauten wie Fest-und Zirkuszelte. Eine verbindende Gestaltung der Zwischenräume mit erhöhter Baumanzahl im gesamten Stadtraum, vergleichend zur Gegenwart steigert die Aufenthaltsqualität des neuen, autofreien Stadtraumes, trägt zur Kühlung sowie Verschattung im Sommer bei und erfüllt den konstanten Wunsch der BürgerInnen nach einer dichter begrünten Stadt. Den sozialen Knotenpunkt des neu geschaffenen Platzes bildet die Markthalle. Sie gibt dem gegenwärtigen Wochenmarkt eine feste Verankerung im Stadtbild. Zu den temporären Marktständen kommen Küchen und Geschäfte hinzu. Eine Kooperation mit der Universität als Mensa ermöglicht eine konstante Nutzung und Einnahmen. Des Weiteren fördert sie die lokale Produktion von Waren, Lebensmitteln und individueller Gastronomie in der Region. Die Markthalle unterstützt den Dialog von BürgernInnen, StudentInnen und TouristInnen. Im gleichen Gebäude befinden sich Seminarräume des geplanten Wissenschaftszentrums und Treffpunkte, die in Kommunikation mit der Markthalle stehen. Der dritte Ankerpunkt des Gesamtkonzepte, nach Audimax und Markthalle, ist die Integration des dominanten Brauereigebäudes, räumlich sowie inhaltlich, in das urbane Leben. Die Kubatur gibt der Brauerei zum Platz hin einen neuen visuellen Charakter und macht ihre Arbeit und Vorgänge im Inneren greifbar. Das Gebäude nutzt das Potential der Höhe, des Ausblicks sowie der Sichtachsen und behandelt den Bestand mit Respekt, bindet ihn in die Atmosphäre mit ein. Die dominante Struktur der Brauerei wird damit ein Bezugsobjekt und keine passive Erscheinung wie in der Gegenwart. Neben der neuen Gastronomie für die Brauerei, finden auch im Foyer ausgelagert Biertanks ihren Platz. Sie machen die verhüllte Arbeit im Inneren des Bestandes sichtbar und verdeutlichen die inhaltliche Verbindung des Konzepts mit der Brauerei. Die Tragstruktur ermöglicht eine große Vielfalt an räumlichen Lösungen und NutzerInnengruppen. Die aktive Belebung des urbanen Raumes erschließt eine offene, kommunikative Zielgruppe. Die Grundrisskonzepte und die Lage eignen sich besonders für TouristInnen, temporär Beschäftigte, StudentInnen und gemischte Wohngemeinschaften. Der Komplex bildet mit seiner Hauptorientierung zum Platz den Abschluss und gleichzeitig den Anschluss an zukünftige Entwicklungen und Zentrumserweiterungen, in Richtung der Brauerei bzw. auf den sogenannten Spitzberg dahinter.

The thesis contains an overall urban development concept with a new urban square and three building designs. The, in 2008 incomplete city centre extension of Passaus old town, will add a lecture hall for the university that also works as a concert hall. The design will be revealed after an architectural competition in 2020 and is localized directly next the brewery building. The thesis contains an overall concept, which develops the urban area as a whole, not only the site for the new lecture hall. The base for the concept is positioning the car traffic in the underground of the area. It also creates a new MobilityHub in the underground for future autonomous vehicles but also solves the current hop-n/hop-off of people and goods. It is designed to work as well in the transitional period between until most vehicles are autonomous. Over the MobilityHub emerges the concert/lecture hall as an impulse generator for the urban area. Its openable stage is pointing towards the new market place with the facade of the monastery set as a scenery. The ambition of the urban space design is to unite the qualities of the new city centre at one defined square. The clear direction if the impulse from the concert hall is created with the aces of the linear facades of the monastery and the new designed arcades. The spacial quality of the neutral square finishes in form of the integration of the brewery with a new building which shows the gesture of edging the volume. The building doesnt hide the existing. Through program and design, the work of the brewery gets visible in the urban environment and the qualities of the site now get experienceable. The concept suits for the present situation of the fully functional brewery, but as well independently for a future that would change the program of the existing brewers or an extension of the new building concept of the Sinfonie-Project. The zoning of the square creates a surrounding for present activities which are missing in the city. But squares change their programs over the decades, so the zoning, allows a change of the program on the square without the need of reducing the spacial quality of the urban square itself. The inclined area of the central place invites people to stay, taking a seat and enjoying performances on the stage like in an amphitheater. The horizontal part presents a neutral urban square for a diversity of events or even temporary buildings like a festival tent. A connecting spatial design with a rising number if trees, increases the quality of stay contributes the cooling and shadowing in the summer and fulfills the citizens constant wish of a more dense amount of green in the city center. The SocialHub in the centre of the new square is the market hall. It provides the weekly farmer market a permanent space in the cityscape. Kitchens and stores will be added to the existing temporary market. A cooperation with the university makes the market work like a canteen and have a constant stream of visitors and income. That supports local businesses and agriculture. The market hall stimulates the dialog between citizens, students and tourists. The seminar rooms and offices of the science center are in the same building and in between meeting places are developed to give people a diversity of spaces to interact, work and/or learn. These spots are communicate permanently with the market hall. The third key element of the concept is the integration of the dominant brewery building into the urban context. The volume gives the brewery a new visual character and represents the work that happens inside. The building unites the potentials of the site. The high rise, the view and die visual connections with major points of the city generate the structure. The restaurant and the lobby with beer tanks inside bring the brewery on the new square. Their transparent design makes the program very visual and stress the programatic connection to the existing brewery. The structure consists a large variation of programs and allows interaction in various spaces. The active stimulation of the urban life opens the structure for an open-minded and communicative user-group. The concepts of the floor plans are ideal for tourists, temporary workers, flat-sharing or students. The multifunctional structure closes the project to the west but still is a point of attachment for future developments of the growing city centre up the Spitzberg where the brewery in operation is at the moment.
