Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird versucht die Unsicherheit in der hochwasserstatistischen Bestimmung von Bemessungswerten - durch die Einbeziehung historischer Informationen über vergangene Hochwasserereignisse - zu verringern. Dabei werden für den Pegel Scheibbs an der Erlauf bereits zur Verfügung stehende historische Archiverhebungen näher ausgewertet und die Hochwässer bewertet. Die Unterteilung der bewerteten Hochwässer erfolgt in Gruppen unter der Berücksichtigung mehrerer unterschiedlich "wahrscheinlicher" Fälle, die dann zur Beobachtungsreihe ergänzt und die ermittelten Bemessungswerte verglichen werden. Die Auswertungen zeigen, dass bereits die Beobachtungsreihe die größten Hochwässer - auch der historischen Periode - beinhaltet, wodurch die Bemessung mit den Hochwasserschätzwerten aus der Beobachtungsreihe jedenfalls als auf der "sicheren Seite" liegend einzuschätzen ist. Die Einbeziehung der historischen Hochwässer verringert die Hochwasserschätzwerte. Die Unsicherheit in der Bemessung wird durch die Erkenntnis, dass in der Vergangenheit keine größeren Hochwässer aufgetreten sind reduziert. Aus wirtschaftlichen Überlegungen bei Dimensionierungsaufgaben könnten im gegebenen Fall - unter der Berücksichtigung der historischen Periode - die Hochwasserbemessungswerte sogar herabgesetzt werden.
