This diploma thesis consists of a theoretical part and a practical part.
This work deals with the implementation of a personal agent in Ubiquituous Computing environments, which should realize the support of users in a goal-oriented way. I have chosen this approach, because it is the best way to give an impression of human intentions. The agent should fulfill its tasks through a) observation, b) learning, and c) explicit interaction with the user. Furthermore, there should be continuos adaption of the agents' behaviour. In addition, some existing projects from the domains "Software Agents" and "Implicit Interaction and Personalization" will be presented.
The functionality of the agent will be described, as will the scenerios in which it is used. From the still known characteristics and achievements, the user is assigned a certain role. Depending on the role, the agent has to fulfill different tasks. The implementation of the assistant is built up on Java and its agent framework JADE. The target platform is a PDA, which is often used in industry. A meeting agent will serve as a practical example. The activities of this assistant include simple tasks such as showing information about the users and meetings and giving an overview of the following meetings and their participants, as well as more complex support described by selected use cases. Three different use cases are foreseen for meetings:
an encapsulated function (reminder of a user), a cooperative function (change and reorganization of the meeting agenda), and a case which concerns long-term targets (such as careers). With the Reminder function Members of a meeting will be warned by the system if they run the risk of exceeding their speech time limit. The use case Agenda includes the timely coordination during meetings as well as notifications of changes in the agenda. The aim of the use case Career is to model and support the professional career of the user.
