Abstract:
Chapter 1 (aim and introduction):
In the first chapter the aims of the thesis are defined. Afterwards the selected projects which build the basis of the interpretation and their circumstances are outlined. Finally a historical description of cycling and continuous driving is given at the end of this chapter.
Chapter 2 (basis):
The background of cycling and continuous driving is given at the beginning of this chapter. Then the circumstances of tunnelling (such as geology, application, systems of tunnels and cross section, linings of tunnels) and their aspects are explained. The topic of a learning process is discussed in theory for cycling and continuous driving.
Finally the formulas and definitions of statistics which are required for the analysis are carried out.
Chapter 3 (project questionnaire):
The used data of the selected projects are captured by questionnaires.
In this chapter the design of the questionnaires of cycling and continuous driving is explicated.
Chapter 4 (project description):
An overview of the selected projects is given. Furthermore the geographic situation, motives for construction as well as design parameters of the single projects are presented.
Chapter 5 (analysis):
At first cost estimates are developed with the help of the data of the questionnaires from the original projects. Hence studies which are based on the original data of the projects are made for virtual selected length of tunnels (the length of tunnels is analysed for "zero", "three", "six" and "eleven" kilometres).
Chapter 6 (cost analysis):
For every single project an interpretation is done for every cost type broken down into cycling and continuous driving for each analysed length. Then these cost types of both kinds of driv-ing are compared with each other.
Chapter 7 (comparison):
In this chapter results of the cycling driving are compared with the outcome of the continuous driving. Therefore a calculation of a lower and an upper limit of the cost types is done by us-ing trend lines. The boundaries, which were searched for, are given by the covering of these trend lines and lead to two points of intersections. Thus these points represent the economic limitations of use for the kind of driving. Hence these boundaries answer the asked question and achieve the aim, which is searched for.
Chapter 8 (conclusion):
The results and the resultant conclusions form the completion of this thesis.
