Since their invention in the twentieth century, synthetic polymers have enabled progress in many areas of life such as health care, electronics, transport or aerospace. Nevertheless, the long-term functionality and safe use of these materials can only be ensured if suitable analytical methods allowing their comprehensive analysis are available. Providing the possibility of spatially and depth-resolved elemental analysis and a means for polymer identification - all in online mode and with no requirements for the sample preparation, LIBS has become an exquisite tool for handling diverse problems in the field of modern polymer analysis. This chapter aims to provide the readers with an overview of the different application areas, outlining the analytical principles and reporting on the recent advances in the field.
