This thesis examines the state of the art of how digital games deal with space, how this space is created and how architects can work with these spaces.
The first section creates a vocabulary to describe space in computer- and videogames and defines the role of architecture and space in them.
It formulates differences in digital space and opposes similarities to the nonvirtual world. Visual representations and the gamer´s handling of game space are presented.
Refering to this acquired data there is an analysis of the organisation of game space, an examination of how the gamer is guided through game spaces, which help is povided by the developer to do so and how the game space changes according to the interaction and state of the player and his presentation in the game. As a conclusion, examples show how technical and theoretical know how of the game industry regarding to space is integrated into the production process of architecture.
