Abstract:
Sinnerfassendes Lesen gehört zu den wichtigsten Kulturkompetenzen der Gegenwart. Leider muss man feststellen, dass in Österreich die Lesekompetenz in den letzten Jahren kontinuierlich gesunken ist. Daher wird von Didaktikerinnen und Didaktikern sowie dem derzeit gültigen österreichischen Lehrplan gefordert, dass sich alle Schulfächer, so auch der Mathematikunterricht, mit der Förderung der Lesekompetenz beschäftigen müssen. Mathematische Texte unterscheiden sich auf Grund ihrer Sprachstruktur und ihres Aufbaus maßgeblich von alltäglichen Texten. Durch die hohe Komplexität und die Prägnanz der mathematischen Sprache kommt es beim Lesen derartiger Texte unweigerlich zu zusätzlichen Verständnishürden.<br />Nur im häufigen Kontakt mit authentischem Material kann dabei die Lesekompetenz der Schüler und Schülerinnen langfristig verbessert werden. Durch die vermehrte Zusammenarbeit zwischen den sprachlichen und naturwissenschaftlichen Fächern hat sich auch in der Mathematik die Lesedidaktik in den letzten Jahren enorm weiterentwickelt. So sind zahlreiche Strategien, Methoden und sogar ganze Unterrichtsmodelle zur Bearbeitung von mathematischen Fachtexten entwickelt worden. Weiters sollte gerade in Österreich die Situation der Schüler und Schülerinnen mit nichtdeutscher Muttersprache, die vor allem in Mathematik oft mit zusätzlichen sprachlichen Schwierigkeiten zu kämpfen haben, ernst genommen werden. Ohne dass darunter der Fachunterricht leidet, sollte jede Lehrperson versuchen, auch hier für spezielle Fördermaßnahmen zu sorgen.<br />
